The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a self-proclaimed pastor, Emmanuel Adegoke, for allegedly obtaining N47 million from a United Kingdom-based Nigerian woman under the false claim of purchasing land on her behalf.

The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday.

According to the statement, “Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested one Pastor Emmanuel Adegoke for allegedly obtaining the sum of N47m under false pretence.”

Odutola stated that the arrest followed a petition filed at the Kemta Divisional Police Headquarters by Mary Abosede, who alleged that between 2013 and 2025, while she was in the United Kingdom, she transferred N47 million to Adegoke for land purchase and house construction in Nigeria.

The statement further read, “Upon her return to Nigeria and subsequent visit to the suspect at his church, Covenant Mercy Church, located at Sam Ewang in Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, she was shocked to discover that no land had been purchased, nor had any building been constructed as agreed.”

Preliminary investigations revealed that Adegoke, who presented himself as a cleric, could not give any satisfactory account of how the funds were utilized.

Odutola added, “In the unfolding development, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Lanre Ogunlowo, has directed that the parties and the case file be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discreet investigation and appropriate action.”
