Former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Prof. Mojeed Alabi, has dismissed claims that the Elders’ Caucus of the All Progressives Congress in the state has endorsed a governorship aspirant.
Alabi, a senior member of the caucus, popularly known as Agba Osun, said the report of the screening committee set up by the elders has not yet been released.
The clarification comes after social media reports suggested that the caucus had endorsed Bola Oyebamiji, the immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, as the party’s candidate.
The reports have stirred controversy among aspirants and their supporters, prompting heated reactions online.
Alabi described the claims as false and misleading, emphasizing that Agba Osun had summoned all aspirants and formed a committee to make recommendations.
He explained that the caucus has not taken any position and that all decisions would be communicated to its members before submission to the National Secretariat.
According to him, the ultimate decision lies with the party’s national leadership, which will consider the views of the state elders.
The former Speaker urged aspirants and party members to avoid spreading unverified information, assuring that structured mechanisms are in place to ensure the emergence of a credible candidate.
He reiterated that the APC remains a party of discipline and is focused on winning next year’s gubernatorial election.
