The Osun State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has fixed December 13, 2025, as the date for its governorship primary election where the party’s candidate for the 2026 Osun gubernatorial poll will emerge.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Osun NNPP Chairman, Mr. Tosin Odeyemi, and obtained by journalists in Osogbo on Friday.

Odeyemi said the party had concluded arrangements for a smooth and transparent primary, adding that the NNPP was not only participating in the upcoming election but was also determined to win.

He said, “We have not less than four aspirants, and many people are still informing us of their interest in joining us. The 2026 gubernatorial election will definitely be a different ball game in Osun, as we are set to spring surprises.”

The chairman expressed optimism about the NNPP’s chances, describing the party as “a new bride in Osun” benefiting from crises rocking both the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, “People are now seeing our party as a third force through which they can strive. We are working underneath, and feelers have made us realise that Osun masses are ready to support whoever emerges as our candidate after the December 13, 2025, primary election.”

Odeyemi also urged party members to intensify public engagement on NNPP’s programmes designed to ease the current economic hardship confronting Nigerians.

Political activities have intensified in Osun State ahead of the August 8, 2026 governorship election.

While the APC, the main opposition party in the state, has also scheduled its primary for December 13, the PDP has screened Governor Ademola Adeleke to seek re-election.

So far, at least 13 aspirants have declared their intention to contest the APC ticket. They include the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji; former Osun Deputy Governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore; ex-Senate Committee Chairman, Senator Babajide Omoworare; and Mr. Dotun Babayemi.

Others are former Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi, Mutual Assurance Benefits Chairman Akin Ogunbiyi, and legal practitioner Kunle Adegoke (SAN).
