Apesin Abiodun Adegoke, a Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, has called on members of the party to adhere strictly to its constitution in dealing with cases of misconduct involving some of its officials.
Adegoke maintained that the recent suspension of certain members, including the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, was carried out in line with party’s constitution.
The PDP is currently battling a multi-layered internal crisis, as leadership tussles and conflicting court judgments threaten to further destabilize the party ahead of a planned national convention scheduled for Ibadan this month.
Reacting to the development while featuring on Insightful Moment show in Osogbo, Adegoke insited that Anyanwu and other party executives remain suspended and whatever they do have no consequence on the party affairs. Ha accused some members of planning to scuttle the process.
He said, ”The PDP constitution is very clear on how issues of misconduct should be handled. The party has followed the appropriate procedures, and nobody is above the law.”
“Evidence shows that Ayanwu signed the document himself in the present of a governor and the state party chairman, if he insists otherwise, he can be investigated for giving false information to the public”, he added
Adegoke described the situation as unfortunate but insisted that the PDP remains a democratic organization capable of resolving its internal challenges.
On the possible impact of the crisis on Governor Ademola Adeleke’s political future, particularly ahead of the 2026 governorship election, Adegoke expressed optimism that the governor would emerge stronger.
He cited Adeleke’s achievements in Osun State, including infrastructural renewal and improved governance, as proof of his popularity among the people.
“Governor Adeleke has performed creditably in Osun State. His record in infrastructure, workers’ welfare, and governance has endeared him to the people. The challenges within the party will not affect his chances. The Governor will contest and win anyone presented by the APC,” he said.
Adegoke also dismissed the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a serious threat in the state, noting that the people of Osun remain solidly behind the PDP.
“Osun people know where they stand. They will not be deceived by the APC’s propaganda. The PDP has the trust of the people and we will retain it,” he added.
