The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan, presided over by Justice Ladiran Akintola, on Monday again adjourned the hearing of a suit challenging the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) planned National Convention.

The case, filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi against the PDP, its Acting National Chairman Umar Iliya Damagum and other key figures was shifted to Wednesday, November 12, 2025, amid heavy security presence at the court premises.

Monday’s session, which was expected to move the matter forward, saw heightened tension as journalists were denied access to the courtroom. Security operatives stationed at different points barred media representatives from covering the proceedings, fueling public curiosity about the case’s sensitivity.

Justice Akintola, after hearing submissions from both legal teams, directed all parties to file and exchange their processes to ensure a smooth and effective commencement of the substantive hearing. He subsequently adjourned the case to allow time for pending applications to be properly addressed.

Adelabi’s suit seeks an order restraining the PDP leadership, including the Acting National Chairman, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (representing himself and members of the National Convention Organising Committee), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from taking any step that might disrupt or compromise the upcoming convention.

It will be recalled that the court had earlier granted the PDP permission to proceed with its planned convention in Ibadan, while directing the party to adhere strictly to its approved guidelines, timetable, and schedule of activities.

As the next hearing approaches, the case continues to attract significant political and public attention, with the atmosphere around the court growing increasingly tense.
