The Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday dissolved all its party structures in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states during its elective national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The announcement followed a motion moved by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who asked the convention to ratify and approve executive committees where congresses had been concluded, while calling for the dissolution of party organs in the affected states.

The motion was seconded by National Auditor and National Working Committee member, Daniel Okechukwu.

Makinde said the decision affects party structures at ward, local government and state levels, and would serve as an official notice to the public.

He noted that the nationwide congresses conducted between 2024 and 2025 complied substantially with the Electoral Act 2022, the PDP Constitution and internal party guidelines.

He added that the outcomes of the congresses had already received the approval of the party’s National Executive Committee and National Working Committee.

Earlier in the session, delegates unanimously confirmed Umaru Damagum as the substantive National Chairman of the party.

The motion, moved by Edo State PDP Chairman Tony Abineri and seconded by Edward Marshal, was made in accordance with Section 32 of the PDP Constitution.

More than 3,000 delegates attended the convention at Ibadan’s Lekan Salami Stadium despite subsisting court orders attempting to halt the exercise.
