The North-Central Forum of All Progressives Congress APC has accused the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, of standing in the way of Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s planned move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released on Sunday, the group said Yilwatda has failed to unite the region and is allegedly placing his personal ambitions ahead of the party’s collective interest. They claimed the national chairman, who was defeated by Mutfwang in the 2023 Plateau governorship election, is resisting the governor’s defection because he hopes to contest again in 2027.
The forum also took issue with Yilwatda’s recent appearance in a church where he reportedly said he represents Christians in the North-Central. They described the remarks as divisive and out of line with the APC’s ideals.
Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, chairman of the forum, argued that Yilwatda lacks the political experience needed to effectively lead the party, noting that he has never held an elected office. He accused the chairman of fuelling tensions both within Plateau State and across the North-Central zone.
With the APC expected to hold a national convention in December, the forum urged party leaders to consider replacing Yilwatda with someone they believe is more capable of strengthening the party.
Despite their grievances, the group restated its loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and vowed to secure strong support for him from the North-Central region in the 2027 elections.
