The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Muhammad Sama’ila-Bagudo, by suspected bandits in Bagudo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, said the incident occurred on Friday night around 8:20 p.m. when armed men invaded Bagudo town.

According to Abubakar, the lawmaker was seized shortly after observing the Isha’i prayer and was on his way home when the attackers struck.

PUNCH Online had earlier reported that the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, confirmed receiving information about the abduction late Friday.

Abubakar stated that a joint security team comprising police tactical units, military personnel, and local vigilantes had been deployed to track down the abductors and rescue the Deputy Speaker safely.

“The joint team is currently combing the bandits’ routes and nearby forests with a view to rescuing the lawmaker unhurt and arresting the perpetrators of this dastardly act,” the police spokesperson said.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bello Sani, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of residents across the state.

“The CP also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting the police and other security agencies to ensure peace and stability in the state,” Abubakar added.

As of press time, the abductors had not made any demands, and the state government had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
