The Kebbi State Police Command has successfully rescued six kidnap victims unharmed following a gun battle with armed bandits in Donko, located in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement released on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the rescue operation was part of ongoing efforts by the command to curb banditry and other violent crimes across the state.
Abubakar explained that the incident occurred on Saturday when about a dozen armed bandits attacked Ukuhu, Tungar Wazga, and Unguwar Chiroma villages, abducting ten residents in the process.
“Acting on credible intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer of Danko led a combined team of policemen and local vigilantes in pursuit of the kidnappers.
“They intercepted the hoodlums at Marina village, near the Zamfara border, and engaged them in a fierce gun duel,” the statement read.
The police noted that the confrontation forced the bandits to abandon some of their captives and escape into the nearby forest with suspected gunshot injuries.
Those rescued were identified as Abubakar B. Abubakar (25), Nasiru Magawata (18), Abdul Magawata (15), Buhari Ukuhu (17), Kamalu Magawata (12), and Naziru Magawata (11). They were taken for medical evaluation and have since been reunited with their families.
The statement further revealed that search and rescue efforts were still underway to locate the remaining four abducted victims and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Commending the swift intervention, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, lauded the DPO and his team for their courage and professionalism during the operation.
He reiterated the command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property while urging residents to provide credible information that could help in tackling insecurity across the state.
