Comedienne and actress Damilola Adekoya, popularly known as Princess, has urged the Lagos State Government to list Nollywood actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, widely called Baba Ijesha, on the state’s sex offenders register.
She made the call during a live Instagram session on Saturday, shortly after news broke of the actor’s release from prison. Her remarks have reignited public attention on the case and amplified ongoing calls for strengthened child-protection measures in Lagos.
Speaking during the broadcast, Princess stressed the need for transparency and adherence to established safeguarding procedures.
She said she expected the Ministry of Justice to “publish his name in the sex offenders register,” adding that she awaited an official response from authorities.
Princess also dismissed online claims suggesting that Baba Ijesha had been pardoned, explaining that her understanding was that he had simply completed the sentence affirmed by the courts.
“No matter how much it hurt me, I have not hidden any information,” she said, reaffirming her trust in the judicial process.
Earlier that day, Princess released a short advocacy video urging Nigerians to prioritise children’s welfare and report all forms of abuse. She reiterated her foundation’s dedication to supporting victims of physical, mental, and sexual violence.
Baba Ijesha’s release follows a Court of Appeal decision that reviewed his earlier conviction—a ruling that has sparked fresh debate. Actor Yomi Fabiyi publicly celebrated the judgment, declaring the actor “officially free,” though the full implications of the ruling remain a topic of public discussion.
A brief video circulating online appears to show Baba Ijesha speaking from a vehicle after leaving custody, but the footage has not been independently verified.
The case, which began in 2021 after Princess accused the actor of inappropriate conduct involving her foster daughter, triggered nationwide outrage and a lengthy legal process. Baba Ijesha was convicted in 2022 before appellate court reviews later modified elements of the judgment.
