The Senator representing Delta North, Ned Nwoko, has dismissed claims by his estranged wife, Regina Daniels, that he married her when she was just 17 years old.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Thursday, Nwoko described the actress’s claim as “false, misleading, and malicious,” alleging that it was part of a calculated attempt to tarnish his reputation amid their ongoing marital dispute.

According to the senator, Regina presented herself as 21 years old when they first met and even showed him her Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voter’s card, which listed her date of birth as October 10, 1998.

“It has come to my attention that false claims are being circulated by Regina, suggesting that I married her when she was 17 years old. These claims are entirely untrue and misleading,” Nwoko wrote.

“During our first meeting, I asked her age, and she told me she was 21. She also presented her INEC voter’s card, which confirmed she was born on October 10, 1998. I kept that document in my custody from that day.”

Nwoko also referred to a BBC interview granted by Regina’s mother shortly after their marriage, in which she reportedly confirmed her daughter’s age.

The lawmaker stated that their marriage took place six years ago, making Regina 27 years old today.

“According to all verifiable records, our marriage happened six years ago. That means Regina is 27 now. Any suggestion that I married her at 17 is false and should not be taken seriously,” he said.

Nwoko went further to allege that Regina’s recent remarks might be influenced by her “mental health struggles,” claiming that she had begun but failed to complete a rehabilitation programme for drug addiction.

“The facts are verifiable and indisputable. I urge the public to treat her statements with caution, especially considering her current mental condition after abandoning rehabilitation for substance abuse,” he added.
