The Ondo State Police Command has opened an inquiry into the death of a woman yet to be identified, whose body was discovered in a hotel room in Ore, within the Odigbo Local Government Area.
The deceased was found on Wednesday in a hotel situated along the Ore–Okitipupa Road, while the man who lodged with her reportedly fled before staff arrived.
A hotel employee, who asked not to be named because of the sensitive nature of the incident, told our correspondent that the pair had checked in together earlier in the day, but only the woman’s body was later found.
“The two were seen together earlier in the day, but when a worker of the hotel got to the room, the lady was seen lifeless on the bed, and the man could not be found.
“It was the person who drew the attention of other hotel staff to the scene. Immediately, the matter was reported at the police station in Ore,” the source said.
The staff member added that no marks of violence or signs of struggle were observed in the room.
Confirming the occurrence on Thursday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, stated that officers had begun tracing the fleeing suspect.
“Yes, the incident happened, and we have begun an investigation, and efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect,” the PPRO said.
The woman’s body has since been moved to a hospital mortuary in the area.
