The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has been announced as the guest lecturer for the 49th Convocation Ceremony of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simeon Bamire, disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing at the university’s Senate Building. He described Akpabio, who served two terms as Governor of Akwa Ibom State as a respected national figure known for his scholarship, leadership and statesmanship.

Prof. Bamire revealed that a total of 6,454 students will graduate this year across various faculties and programmes.

Breakdown of Graduating Students includes 5,084 students that earn first degrees, 217 made First Class Honours, 2,077 earned Second Class Upper Division, 2,173 bagged Third Class Honours while 33 graduated with Pass.

He said further that 1,074 students will graduate from the Postgraduate School while 54 students will receive undergraduate diplomas

He added that the convocation events will also feature academic awards and recognition of distinguished personalities, including the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, among others.

All programmes are scheduled to hold at the University Amphitheatre and Oduduwa Hall.

Speaking on the significance of the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor said this year’s graduating set represents “a remarkable cohort of bright minds shaped by rigorous scholarship, mentorship, and hard work.”
