APC Chieftain, Hon. Mansur Oladimeji Tijani (MOTIJ) in Ede North Local Government has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Prof. AbdGaffar Siyan Oyeweso, Pro-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University and Provost of the Post-Graduate College at Osun State University. Prof. Oyeweso died at the age of 64.
In a heartfelt tribute signed by Tijani described the late academic as “a scholar of rare depth and clarity” whose contributions to historical studies and university governance left an indelible mark on Osun State and the nation.
According to him, Prof. Oyeweso carried his vast knowledge with humility and led with “quiet discipline,” earning respect in lecture halls, council chambers and public discourse.
He lauded the scholar’s commitment to truth, intellectual excellence and service, noting that his reasoned, balanced voice was a guiding force in academia.
Tijani highlighted the late Pro-Chancellor’s role in strengthening institutional structures, promoting merit and championing education as a tool for societal reform.
He said many who passed through Prof. Oyeweso’s tutelage now stand as evidence of his lasting influence.
Beyond his administrative roles, Tijani emphasized Oyeweso’s pride in his Ede roots, describing him as “a son of the soil” who never lost touch with his culture or community despite his national stature.
The council extended condolences to the professor’s family, colleagues, students and the wider academic community, praying for comfort and strength for all who mourn him.
“Prof. Oyeweso may have departed, but his work remains, and his name will endure,” he said, praying that Almighty Allah grants him Al-Jannah Firdaus.
