The All Progressives Congress (APC) Screening Committee has disqualified former National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore, alongside six other aspirants, from participating in the Osun State governorship primary scheduled for December 13.

According to the committee, the affected aspirants failed to meet key nomination requirements outlined in the APC Constitution and the party’s guidelines for the 2025 governorship primaries.

The disqualification was contained in a report submitted to the party’s National Working Committee on Friday in Abuja. The screening team, chaired by Chief Obinna Uzoh, concluded its assignment on December 4.

The committee revealed that Omisore and the six other aspirants did not provide evidence of sponsorship by at least five fully registered and financially up-to-date APC members from each Local Government Area in Osun State. This requirement is mandatory under Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii) of the APC Constitution, as well as Paragraph 6(c) of the party’s guidelines.

The disqualified aspirants includes Sen. Iyiola Omisore, Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Benedict Alabi, Adegoke Rasheed Okiki and Sen. Babajide Omoworare

Only two aspirants – Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji were cleared to contest.

The committee stated that it thoroughly examined all documents and materials submitted by aspirants

Conducted structured interviews to assess each aspirant’s understanding of party rules and readiness for leadership

Ensured a transparent and objective process

It also confirmed receiving a petition from the Osun APC Renewal Group calling for the disqualification of the two approved aspirants. After reviewing the petition, the committee said the allegations were substantial but that Jimoh and Oyebamiji met all requirements.

The committee noted that the APC structure in Osun remains deeply divided, warning that such divisions could undermine the party’s chances ahead of the August 8, 2026 governorship election.

The committee recommended immediate establishment of a reconciliation mechanism, Fair distribution of political appointments, party positions, and campaign roles and efforts to ensure inclusiveness across all zones and party blocs

The committee thanked the APC leadership for entrusting it with the assignment and reaffirmed its commitment to fairness and transparency.
