The Executive Chairman of Irepodun Local Government, Ilobu, Osun State, Barr. Adegoke Ogunsola, on Monday presented a ₦5.88bn budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year to the Legislative Council of the local government.
Ogunsola described the presentation as a bold step towards prosperity and true local government autonomy.
The budget, christened “ Budget of Prosperity and Autonomy,” was designed to demonstrate that local governments can effectively manage their affairs with transparency and fiscal discipline.
He affirmed that the proposed budget would be funded through statutory allocations from the federation account and internally generated revenue.
The Chairman noted that the administration plans to balance capital projects with recurrent expenditure in a responsible manner.
Ogunsola explained that key areas of focus including the comprehensive rehabilitation of the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat, construction and maintenance of new and existing roads, opening of rural roads, and the modernization and expansion of markets to meet present economic realities.
“Our administration is committed to physical development that will directly impact the lives of our people, agriculture would also receive prior attention through improved access to farm inputs to boost food production and livestock farming,” Ogunsola stated.
The chairman noted that provisions had been made for the rehabilitation of primary and middle school buildings, supply of teaching materials, and the provision of desks, chairs, and sports facilities. He assured teachers that their salaries and allowances were fully captured in the 2026 budget.
During an interview with InsightLinks correspondent, Ogunsola disclosed that primary healthcare services across the 11 wards of the local government would be strengthened through regular supply of essential drugs and basic medical equipment.
“The administration would consolidate previous gains recorded in the health sector to ensure accessible healthcare for residents. We shall ensure our PHC function to the optimal level while no other sector will be ignored,” he added.
He stated that on social development, empowerment programmes and vocational training would be organised to improve the living standards of residents and reduce unemployment. While adding that adequate provisions were made for the welfare of traditional rulers, chiefs, Baales, and local government staff.
The chairman stressed thatthe local government system is constitutionally recognised as the third tier of government, with its own executive and legislative arms. He urged the Legislative Council, led by Hon. Tajudeen Adeniyi Bakare, to give the budget proposal prompt consideration and passage into an Appropriation Bye-Law.
Ogunsola appealed to workers of the local government to resume duty, assuring them that the administration was committed to peaceful engagement and effective service delivery. He also called on residents to cooperate with revenue officers when tax collection begins in January, especially drivers, motorcyclists, and petty traders.
Ogunsola implored the people of Irepodun should expect growth, development and accessible leadership, thanking royal fathers, party leaders and residents for their support, while expressing optimism that the 2026 budget would usher in prosperity and strengthen local government autonomy in line with the policy direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
