World heavyweight boxing star, Anthony Joshua, was involved in a road accident on Monday in Makun, Ogun State, leaving two persons dead.
Eyewitnesses said the crash occurred along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, near Danco Filling Station, before the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound lane.
Joshua was reportedly travelling in a Lexus SUV with registration number KRD 850 HN when the vehicle rammed into a stationary truck under circumstances yet to be determined.
A witness and member of the rescue team, Adeniyi Orojo, confirmed that Joshua sustained minor injuries and was promptly rescued from the wreckage. He added that two occupants died on the spot.
“The accident happened along the busy expressway shortly before the Sagamu Interchange. Unfortunately, two people lost their lives instantly,” Orojo said.
The truck involved in the accident was parked on the roadside at the time of the collision.
Following the incident, fans of the boxer have taken to social media to express concern over his condition, while authorities have commenced investigations into the cause of the crash.
Efforts to reach the TRACE Commandant, Akinbiyi Babatunde, for official comments were unsuccessful as calls to his phone were not returned.
