Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has once again shown his love for football by placing a hefty $25,000 bet on Nigeria’s opening match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The singer shared a screenshot of his betting slip on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, encouraging the Super Eagles with the message, “Let’s get this W Nigeria.”

According to the slip on the Stake betting app, Davido wagered on both Nigeria and Tanzania scoring in the Group C encounter. If successful, the bet could earn him a payout of $96,564, estimated at about ₦140 million.

This is not the first time Davido has publicly backed the Super Eagles with big money. Ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Gabon, he reportedly staked $10,000, predicting a Nigerian victory with goals from both sides. That bet, however, did not pay off after Nigeria lost the match.

Despite the setback, the award-winning artiste has remained vocal and enthusiastic in his support for the national team.

His latest wager has sparked mixed reactions online, with some fans applauding his confidence, while others jokingly questioned his loyalty because the bet included a goal for Tanzania.

As a brand ambassador for Stake, some observers believe the move is partly promotional, while critics argue that it blurs the line between national support and personal gain.

The Super Eagles will take on Tanzania’s Taifa Stars on Tuesday, December 23, at the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Morocco, as Nigeria begin their quest for a fourth AFCON title.

Nigeria, three-time African champions, are favourites to top Group C, which also features Tunisia and Uganda. Led by stars such as Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, the Eagles boast superior pedigree and are ranked 38th in the world, compared to Tanzania’s 112th.

Tanzania have never defeated Nigeria in a competitive match, a statistic that further boosts confidence among Nigerian fans. However, the Super Eagles’ recent failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup has left many supporters cautiously optimistic rather than overly confident.
