Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has applauded Nollywood stars and filmmakers Lateef Adedimeji and Adebimpe Oyebade, popularly known as Mo Bimpe, for their bold effort to preserve Ekiti’s history through film.

The governor gave the commendation on Monday during a visit to several locations in Ado-Ekiti where the historical epic Ekiti Parapo War is currently being filmed. Impressed by what he saw, Oyebanji described the project as a major cultural milestone, praising its scale, depth and attention to historical accuracy.

Sharing his experience on X (formerly Twitter), the governor said the production reflects a strong commitment to telling Ekiti’s story with authenticity and pride.

“I am impressed by the level of detail, the depth of research and the dedication to historical accuracy displayed in this project,” Oyebanji said. “It is a powerful reminder of why our history must be properly documented and passed on.”

He stressed that preserving cultural memory is essential to sustaining the identity of any people, adding that his administration remains committed to safeguarding Ekiti’s heritage for future generations.

“Our history matters. A people without a well-told history risk losing their identity. That is why we continue to support efforts that document and celebrate Ekiti’s past,” the governor noted.

Oyebanji clarified that although the state government is not directly sponsoring the film, he is pleased to lend support by rallying goodwill from partners and friends who share the vision of promoting indigenous stories.

“Even though this project is privately driven, I am glad to support initiatives like this that align with our belief in telling our own stories, in our own voice,” he said.

The governor also commended the cast and crew for their professionalism and respect for Ekiti history, noting that filmmakers play a vital role in shaping historical narratives and educating future generations.

“Lateef Adedimeji, Bimpe Adedimeji and the entire production team deserve commendation for their creativity and commitment to authenticity,” he added.

Oyebanji further highlighted the importance of arts, culture and tourism as key drivers of development in Ekiti State, assuring that the government will continue to encourage creative projects that project the state’s rich heritage positively to the world.

The Ekiti Parapo War film follows the filmmakers’ widely acclaimed Netflix biopic Lisabi, which chronicled the life of the famous Egba warlord. With this new project, the couple aims to take the story of the historic Ekiti Parapo conflict to a global audience, further strengthening their reputation for blending compelling storytelling with historical documentation.
