Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has once again made history as her latest cinema release, Behind The Scenes, has crossed the ₦1 billion mark at the Nigerian box office, raking in ₦1,109,463,846.

The achievement was announced by FilmOne Entertainment via its X handle on Monday, where the distributor described the feat as historic and unprecedented in the West African film industry.

According to FilmOne, Behind The Scenes is now the fastest film in West Africa to gross over ₦1 billion. It also recorded the highest single-day box office earnings ever on Boxing Day, pulling in ₦129.5 million.

The distributor further revealed that the film is currently the highest-grossing theatrical release of 2025, sustaining strong momentum weeks after its debut in cinemas.

FilmOne also highlighted Akindele’s growing dominance at the box office, describing her as the only director to cross the ₦1 billion mark three different times and Nollywood’s highest-grossing producer of all time. The company added that she is the first filmmaker to deliver three consecutive ₦1 billion films within a single calendar year.

“Thank you to everyone for the love and support so far. This win is for all of us,” FilmOne stated.

PUNCH Online had earlier reported that the movie grossed ₦512 million within 12 days of its release, making it the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025 at the time.

The film held advance screenings on December 10 and 11 before its nationwide cinema release on December 12, going on to record one of the strongest opening weekends of the year by crossing ₦200 million within days.

FilmOne had described the performance as the biggest opening weekend of 2025, noting that the movie also set several opening weekend records, including the highest admissions recorded during the period.

Behind The Scenes explores the theme of black tax, focusing on the social and financial pressures placed on individuals who support extended family members—a subject that has resonated strongly with audiences.

The film stars Scarlet Gomez in the lead role and features an ensemble cast that includes Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, Adebowale ‘Mr Macaroni’, Ibrahim Chatta, Kamo State, as well as reality TV stars Handi and Wanni Danbaki, among others.
