Popular Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has opened up about one of the most disturbing experiences she faced at the start of her acting career.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the actress revealed that one of her earliest challenges in the industry was receiving shocking and inappropriate scripts.
According to her, the most alarming script she was ever offered required her to act a scene where she would sleep with a dog. Blessing said she immediately rejected the role because she believed it would damage her image, especially as a newcomer.
“Despite being a beginner in the industry, they gave me a script to sleep with a dog. I rejected it because I couldn’t start my career like that. Imagine my first movie being about something so outrageous. People would have associated me with that forever,” she said.
The actress explained that although she turned down the role, several other young actresses quickly accepted it. However, she noted that none of them went on to achieve mainstream recognition.
Blessing recalled that shortly after leaving that production location, she met renowned Nollywood filmmaker Emeka Duru, who took interest in her talent. He later connected her with another top filmmaker, Imem Isong, who eventually cast her in Through The Fire, the film that marked her official Nollywood debut.
