Sixteen members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major shake-up in the state’s political landscape.

The lawmakers, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, announced their defection during plenary on Friday. Amaewhule explained that the group’s decision was driven by what he called a deep and unresolved division within the PDP, which he said made it impossible for them to continue under the party’s platform.

Their move is expected to further heighten political tensions in Rivers State, where power struggles have intensified in recent months.

More details are expected as the situation develops.
