Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has officially announced his defection to Accord Party, marking a dramatic turn in the state’s political landscape.

The governor’s move, which had been the subject of intense speculation over the past weeks, was confirmed on Tuesday during a brief ceremony at the Banquet hall of the Osun State Government house with the national and state officials of the accord party in attendance

Adeleke said the decision became necessary after what he described as “deep-seated internal sabotage” within the PDP.

Speaking at the event, the governor explained that he could no longer remain in a party where “loyalty is mocked and genuine efforts for development are constantly frustrated.”

“I came into office to serve the people of Osun, not to fight endless internal battles,” Adeleke said. “After wide consultations with stakeholders, community leaders and my political family, I have decided to continue my mandate under the Accord Party.”

Accord Party leaders welcomed the governor with open arms, describing his entry as “a new dawn” for the party both in Osun State and nationally. Party chairman, Hon. Isaac Fayemi, said Adeleke’s defection demonstrates the party’s growing influence.

Political analysts say the governor’s move could reshape the political dynamics of Osun State, particularly as the state prepares for the next election cycle. Many observers believe Adeleke’s popularity, especially among youths and grassroots supporters, could significantly strengthen Accord’s electoral strength.

Meanwhile, reactions have been mixed. While supporters of the governor celebrated the development with cheers and music in Ede, some PDP members expressed disappointment, accusing internal party leaders of mishandling the situation.

For now, Adeleke insists that his decision is focused on “continuing the development and welfare agenda” his administration has pursued since 2022.

Osun politics, once again, enters a new chapter, one that promises fresh alliances, renewed rivalries and a potentially dramatic shift in the state’s political future.
