The Nigerian Air Force has shared photographs of two pilots who narrowly escaped death after ejecting from an aircraft that developed an in-flight emergency in Niger State.

In a statement posted on its official X account on Sunday, the NAF praised the pilots for their “exceptional courage and professionalism.”

According to earlier reports by PUNCH Online, the incident happened on Saturday during a routine post-maintenance test flight from Kainji Air Base. The Alpha Jet experienced a technical fault, forcing the pilots to eject before the aircraft crashed near Karabonde village in the Borgu Local Government Area.

Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Director of Public Relations and Information, noted that the pilots successfully steered the aircraft away from residential areas before ejecting. He confirmed that both officers are currently undergoing routine medical checks.

Ejodame also disclosed that the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, has ordered the immediate setup of a Board of Inquiry to determine the cause of the crash.

The Air Force assured Nigerians of its ongoing commitment to maintaining high safety standards and protecting both its personnel and the public.

Alpha Jets in the NAF fleet are mainly used for training and air-to-ground missions and have played significant roles in various internal security operations across the country.
