Thousands of members of the Osogbo Progressive Youth Movement staged a public rally for an Osogbo indigene to emerge as the next governor of Osun State, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to support Barrister Kunle Rasheed Adegoke (SAN) as the party’s flag bearer for the 2026 governorship election.
The youths gathered at Ayetoro and moved throught Igbona, Old Garage, Freedom Park and other area, insisting that the time for Osogbo to produce governor is now.
Speaking during the gathering, a member of the group, Adeagbo Suraj Ademola, said the people of Osogbo believe it is time for the state capital to produce a governor for the first time since the creation of Osun State in 1991. He explained that K.Rard has the competence and readiness to lead the APC to victory.
He said indirectly that Osogbo has never produced a governor and that fairness and equity demand that the next APC candidate should come from the capital city.
”We are gathering here to tell the entire world that it is time for Osogbo to produce a governor. Special appeal goes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to kindly support K.Rard as the gubernatorial flag bearer of the APC come 2026. K.Rard has been readily prepared to take the party to greater heights and secure victory for the party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.” he said.
He added that giving the ticket to an Osogbo indigene would significantly boost voter turnout for the APC.
Another speaker, Babatunde Adebayo, said Osogbo has waited long enough for political recognition. Drawing a comparison with Oyo State’s political history, he recalled how Ibadan secured its place by demanding it.
”For quite a long time, Osogbo deserves it. Let’s go to the memory of Ibadan. During Olulonyo’s time, Ibadan asked for it, and that was why they produced a governor. They remained silent until they were told they were not competent to have a governor. Now no gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State comes from anywhere except Ibadan. Osogbo deserves to have an indigene as governor,” he added.
Speaking further ,he said the 2026 election would not meet Osogbo in silence.
”Maybe we remained silent for too long, but now we have woken up from slumber. Last time, K.Rard came out but there was no proper arrangement within the party, so everything went silent. This time around, Osogbo wants to produce the next governor. That is why we gathered here to make our voice heard.”
A resident from Osogbo AbdulRaqaz Usman Animashaun also appealed Bola Ahmed Tinubu to support Osogbo indigene in order to become the next governor of Osun State.
He added that Osogbo indigene has be supportive to other local government, thriving to be Osun State governor.
Speaking further, he added that Osogbo has many potential candidates to be the next governor. In other to make it successful all the candidates came together to support Kunle Rasheed (KRAD) and all Osogbo indigene are in support of it.
”We just want Tinubu to support Osogbo indigene in the incoming Osun Governorship election,” he concluded.
Also speaking, another member of the movement, Abibat Adejare, appealed directly to President Tinubu to support Osogbo’s demand.
”We are appealing to our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to help us and give us what we want in Osogbo. We want an Osogbo indigene to be the next governor of Osun State, and we want his support.”

The rally ended with a renewed call for the APC leadership to prioritise equity and political balance as preparations for the 2026 governorship election begin.
