The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been plunged into deep sorrow following the death of one of its eminent chieftains, Prof. Abdulgafar Siyan Oyeweso, who passed away on the morning of December 2, 2025, after a brief illness.
In a statement released today by the party’s spokesperson, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the Osun APC Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, described Prof. Oyeweso’s passing as a monumental loss not only to the party but also to the academic community and the entire state.
Sooko Lawal paid glowing tribute to Prof. Oyeweso’s remarkable contributions, celebrating him as a distinguished Nigerian historian, an exceptional educator, a devoted mentor, and a steadfast progressive whose scholarly and public-service achievements enriched the nation.
Born on February 1, 1961, in Ibadan, Oyo State, Prof. Oyeweso hailed from Ede in Osun State. His academic journey began at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), where he earned his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Intellectual History. His brilliance and dedication propelled him to the rank of full Professor of History in 2004, cementing his reputation as a pillar of knowledge and excellence.
The Osun APC noted the profound void his departure leaves behind among his family, colleagues, former students, and political associates affirming that his legacy of scholarship, leadership, and community service will remain a lasting source of inspiration.
The party extended its heartfelt condolences to the Oyeweso family, praying that Almighty God grants them strength, comfort, and resilience during this difficult period.
“On behalf of my family and the entire members of our party in Osun State, I pray that God consoles the biological and political families, friends, and well-wishers of the deceased. May He continue to grant our party unity, peace, and divine guidance as we navigate this painful loss.
