Chairmen of three local government areas in Osun State have presented their 2026 budget proposals to their respective legislative councils.
The Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, Hassan Okanlawon, laid a ₦6.84bn estimate before councillors at the council secretariat in Ikirun. He described the proposal as a strategic framework aimed at accelerating socio-economic development and improving residents’ living standards.
According to Okanlawon, the budget prioritises key sectors such as infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, social services and empowerment programmes.
He added that the allocations were carefully structured to address immediate community needs while supporting long-term development goals.
Similarly, the Chairman of Egbedore Local Government, Hissa Akinwale, presented a ₦6.2bn proposal tagged *Budget for Sustainable Development* to the council’s legislative house in Awo.
Akinwale said the estimates would focus on infrastructural development, potable water supply, primary healthcare, environmental sanitation, education support, youth empowerment, agriculture and security. He also pledged special attention to staff welfare through prompt payment of salaries, benefits and regular training.
He said, “In arriving at the size of the 2026 budget of ₦6.2bn, adequate planning and consultations were carried out to ensure that the budget is implementable and beneficial to our people.”
In Irepodun Local Government, the council chairman, Adegoke Ogunsola, presented a ₦5.88bn budget proposal before the legislative house in Ilobu. Ogunsola explained that the estimates would be funded through statutory allocations from the Federation Account and internally generated revenue.
He said the budget would cover both capital projects and recurrent expenditure, assuring that implementation would be guided by transparency and fiscal discipline.
The three chairmen, elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, presented their budgets directly to their councillors, unlike their Peoples Democratic Party counterparts elected in February 2025, who recently defended their estimates before the Osun State House of Assembly.
