The Osun State Chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has refuted rumour in some quarters that it has endorsed any candidate for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

The council debunked the rumour on Saturday at the 2025 Annual General Meeting presided over by its chairman, Comrade Akinbode Olusegun.

The Chairman said, “We are all aware that elections are fast approaching. Let me state clearly and without ambiguity, the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Osun State Chapter has not endorsed any candidate or political party (for the forthcoming governorship election).

“We remain a non-partisan and issue-driven organisation. However, we are firm and unapologetic about the interests of Osun youths. The youths of Osun State are conscious, organised, and ready to engage constructively. We will mobilise massively for any candidate or administration that demonstrates genuine commitment to youth development and inclusion.”

Among the demand by the Council is the appointment of a Commissioner for youth who is less than 45 years of age.

The current occupant of the seat, Moshood Olagunju is believed to be in his 50s.

Also, the youth berated the continued shutdown of local government councils across the state, calling on the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, and Governor Ademola Adeleke to meet and resolve the crisis.

The Council gave the minister and the governor 30-day ultimatum to resolve the crisis, otherwise they will start massive protest across the state.

“We’re giving the Honourable minister of marine and blue economy, Gboyega Oyetola and the governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke a thirty-day ultimatum from January 1, 2026 to resolve the Local Government issue or face the protest from Osun Youth across all the Local Governments.”

He further said “the protest would block the minister from entering the state and also block the Governor from moving around the state.”

He urge the two political gladiators to resolve the issue amicably and let the Local Government start working again.
