The Taraba State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ibrahim Tukur, has announced that Governor Agbu Kefas will formally join the party in January 2026.

Governor Kefas was initially expected to defect on November 19, but the plan was put on hold following the kidnapping of schoolchildren in Kebbi State. He explained that it would have been insensitive to continue with political celebrations while the nation was facing a fresh security crisis.

Speaking at a press briefing in Jalingo on Sunday, Tukur revealed that although the official ceremony was postponed, the governor had already completed the necessary steps and was registered at the ward level.

According to him, December is a busy month for families across the state, and the party does not want to inconvenience people during the festive period.

“December is already packed with activities. We don’t want to pull people away from their holiday preparations,” he said.

Tukur confirmed that Governor Kefas had fulfilled all requirements and is already recognised as a full APC member.

He also disclosed that 15 members of the Taraba State House of Assembly, as well as the entire state executive council, had joined the governor in moving to the APC.

“What is happening is simply a natural political realignment. Many stakeholders are moving with the governor, and even more are expected to do so. There’s no cause for concern,” he assured.

The APC leadership in the state has now agreed that January is the most suitable period for the official reception.

“Once we fix a specific date, we’ll make it public,” Tukur added.
