President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated a high-powered committee to tackle internal disagreements within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the ruling party begins preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The committee, officially known as the Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation, was inaugurated on Wednesday in Lagos, according to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, was appointed as chairman of the committee, while former APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire, will serve as member-secretary. The committee comprises governors, ministers and other influential stakeholders within the party.

Among its members are Senators Adamu Aliero; governors AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Uba Sani (Kaduna) and Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers).

Also included are the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle; and former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Buni expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the trust placed in the committee, assuring that members would approach the assignment with commitment and a strong sense of responsibility.

He said the committee would focus on extensive consultations and strategic engagements aimed at developing a lasting and inclusive framework for resolving disputes within the party.
“Our goal is to build a productive, result-driven strategy that promotes unity and gives every member, especially aggrieved parties, a sense of belonging and renewed hope,” Buni stated.

He added that the committee would also adopt proactive measures to identify potential threats and prevent conflicts before they escalate, urging members to put the collective interest of the party above personal ambitions.

The committee’s inauguration follows President Tinubu’s recent call for unity within the APC during the party’s 15th National Executive Committee meeting held on December 19 at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
