Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has restated his commitment to giving every young person in the state access to quality education, saying his government will never deprive the youths of opportunities that can transform their future.

The governor made this known on Saturday at the combined 37th and 38th convocation ceremony of the Rivers State University (RSU), Port Harcourt, where a total of 13,242 students graduated.

Fubara noted that his administration is deliberately investing in the education sector especially RSU to close infrastructural gaps, improve campus security and enhance the welfare of both students and staff.

He also assured that RSU’s satellite campuses, especially those currently struggling with operational challenges, will receive priority attention in 2026 to ensure they function optimally.

The governor praised the university for maintaining high standards in teaching, research and leadership training qualities he said are crucial for the development of Rivers State and Nigeria at large.

He encouraged the school’s management to intensify their focus on research and innovation, stressing that these are key tools for solving many of the socio-economic challenges facing the state.

“We will continue to meet our financial responsibilities to the university. We are committed to upgrading infrastructure, and ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone on campus. Education is still the most important investment we can make for our future,” Fubara said.

He added that his government will never deny the youths the life-changing power of education.

Addressing the graduating students, the governor urged them to take advantage of the state’s growing economic opportunities. He encouraged them to embrace entrepreneurship and innovative thinking as they step into the next phase of their lives.

In his remarks, RSU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi, highlighted the university’s progress over the past year. He disclosed that the school has successfully secured accommodation for 40,000 students and achieved full accreditation for all its programmes despite facing major challenges.
