The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Thursday as the faction backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, announced the dissolution of State Working Committees in 14 states across the country.

The decision was reached at a meeting of the PDP National Working Caretaker Committee faction held in Abuja and communicated through a statement read by the acting National Publicity Secretary, Haruna Jungun.

According to Jungun, the affected states are Borno, Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Ekiti, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Delta, Taraba, Kano and Lagos.

He explained that the move was part of efforts to strengthen the party’s administration and improve coordination of activities nationwide.

“The National Caretaker Committee further ratified the dissolution of some state executives while confirming caretaker committees to oversee party affairs in those states,” Jungun said.

The faction also announced new appointments into key national positions. Prof. Adenike Ogunse was named Women Leader, Deji Doherty as Deputy National Secretary and Senator Olaka Ogunwu as National Treasurer. Others appointed include Jungun Mohammed as National Publicity Secretary and Dr Ibrahim Bala-Aboki as National Youth Leader.

Jungun added that a timetable for state congresses has been approved, with exercises scheduled to commence on January 9, 2026, ahead of a planned national convention.

Reacting to claims that another faction led by former Minister of Special Duties, Taminu Turaki, had been recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Jungun dismissed the reports as false.

“There is only one genuine and legitimate PDP, headed by Abdulrahmah Mohammed,” he said, challenging Turaki to produce the code allegedly used to upload his list of executives on INEC’s portal.

Earlier, the acting National Chairman of the faction, Abdulrahmah Mohammed, said the meeting was convened to ensure the party remains on a lawful and stable footing.

“We have only one PDP under my leadership, operating strictly in line with the party’s constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Mohammed stated.
