A member of the House of Representatives representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Afolabi Afuape, has said that Nigeria’s economic recovery and stability can only be sustained if President Bola Tinubu is allowed to continue his leadership beyond 2027.

According to the lawmaker, the country has moved significantly from where it once was due to what he described as the President’s courageous economic reforms, stressing that it was only appropriate for Tinubu to consolidate on the gains already recorded.

Afuape also called on members of the All Progressives Congress to participate actively in the ongoing electronic registration of the party and complement it by registering with the Independent National Electoral Commission to secure their voter cards ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He made the call on Sunday while speaking with journalists during a thank-you tour of Ward 4, Keesi Itoko, in Abeokuta South.

“The truth is that President Bola Tinubu has helped to move this nation forward;, we are no longer where we used to be.

“The courageous economic reforms are already yielding fruits; our economy is recovering very fast from the mismanagement of the past. Things are looking up so brightly for us; a new dawn is here.

“You can see the various infrastructural developments across the country. It goes beyond debating. President Tinubu has done so well, and he unarguably deserves to continue his good job beyond 2027

“I also want to say that the support given by President Tinubu to the members of the House of Representatives is very solid and uncommon, so we need to reciprocate that by mobilising our people to vote again for our party and Mr President come 2027,” Afuape said.

He explained that his visit to Ward 4 was to appreciate constituents for their continued support and to encourage widespread participation in both the APC e-registration exercise and INEC’s voter registration.

“I am actually here to appreciate my people, the people of my ward, for their support for me at all times.

“I appreciate the unprecedented turnout of my people, and it also goes to show that we are also not resting on our oars; we are doing everything within our ability and resources to ensure that the people enjoy the dividends of democracy.

“I am here to tell them that the party’s e-registration is on and I want to encourage everyone of them to go out there and register. Politics remains a game of numbers; the more we are, the better and stronger the party.

“I can’t also afford to do less because my federal constituency is the cradle of civilization, so I can’t afford to bring down the standard. As of today, I have done a lot in terms of empowerment, in terms of motion moved at the House of Representatives.

“I also want to say that the support given by our President, Bola Tinubu, to the members of the House of Representatives is very solid and uncommon. And we need to reciprocate that by mobilising our people to vote again for our party, and Mr President come 2027,” he added.

Beyond party registration, Afuape urged APC members to take advantage of INEC’s ongoing voter registration to ensure they are eligible to vote for the party in the next general election.

Speaking on his political future, the lawmaker said his ambition would be determined by the will of the people.

“My ambition will be determined by the people, though. I hope to go back to the House of Representatives, my people have spoken, but I will also go back to God to also pray that the Lord God Almighty should bless our intentions too,” he said.

The former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Ogun State also praised Governor Dapo Abiodun, describing him as a conscientious leader providing purposeful leadership across the state.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abiodun on Health, Dr Kehinde Ololade, commended Afuape’s commitment to grassroots empowerment and mobilisation, urging him to remain focused on promoting good governance.

He further encouraged residents who were yet to register or who needed replacement voter cards to take advantage of the ongoing INEC exercise to prepare for the 2027 elections.
