Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has played down reports of tension between himself and Victor Osimhen following Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The incident occurred during Monday night’s Round of 16 clash, where both players found the back of the net in the first half. Lookman was instrumental in the win, setting up Osimhen twice before also getting on the scoresheet himself.

However, moments of tension were noticeable when Osimhen appeared frustrated after Lookman opted to shoot instead of passing during a promising attack. The situation briefly escalated, with Osimhen later slowing down his runs and gesturing towards head coach Eric Chelle to be substituted.

Speaking after the match, Lookman dismissed suggestions of any serious fallout, insisting the team’s success mattered more than individual moments on the pitch.

“I don’t think that’s really important. The team won 4–0,” Lookman told reporters.
He also moved quickly to reassure fans about his relationship with the Napoli striker.

“Vic is my number one guy, everybody knows that. He’s a top striker and a top player. Everything else is not important,” he added.

Nigeria’s convincing win secured their place in the quarter-finals, with the Super Eagles now firmly focused on their quest for continental glory.
