The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed the semi-final fixtures for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco following the conclusion of an exciting round of quarter-final matches.
Four continental heavyweights Egypt, Nigeria, hosts Morocco and Senegal have booked their places in the last four after a series of thrilling encounters that wrapped up on Saturday night.
Host nation Morocco will face Nigeria, while Senegal take on Egypt in what promises to be two mouth-watering semi-final clashes scheduled for Wednesday.
Seven-time champions Egypt secured the final semi-final spot after edging defending champions Côte d’Ivoire 3–2 in a dramatic contest. The result brought an end to the Ivorians’ title defence and set up a high-stakes showdown with Senegal.
Earlier, Senegal confirmed their place with a narrow 1–0 victory over Mali in a tense West African derby. A first-half strike from Iliman Ndiaye proved decisive as the Teranga Lions held firm to protect their slim advantage.
Hosts Morocco continued their impressive campaign with a composed 2–0 win over Cameroon in Rabat. Goals from Brahim Díaz and Ismaël Saibari highlighted the Atlas Lions’ attacking depth and defensive solidity.
Nigeria completed the semi-final line-up after defeating Algeria 2–0 in Marrakech. Victor Osimhen opened the scoring with a beautiful header before Akor Adams sealed the victory late on, setting up a highly anticipated clash with the host nation.
Overall, the quarter-finals showcased the fine margins at this stage of the tournament, with experience, composure and quality proving decisive.
The semi-final matches will be played on Wednesday, while the AFCON 2025 final is scheduled for January 18 in Rabat.
