Anambra State has emerged as the overall best-performing state in the South-East at the 2026 National Teachers Summit, while also securing second position at the national level.

The summit, organised by the Office of the Wife of the President in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, also produced an individual landmark achievement, as Chekwube Ifentike of Government Technical College, Onitsha, won the maiden edition of the teachers’ award in Nigeria.

Ifentike received a cash prize of ₦25 million.

The event, which concludes today at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja, is themed “Empowering teachers, strengthening the system: A national agenda for education transformation and sustainability.”

Reacting to the achievement, the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, expressed delight, attributing the success to sustained investment in the education sector by the state government under Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

“This is a demonstration that the commitment of the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to the funding of education is yielding the desired dividends.

“The achievements represent the fruits of investments in Anambra State’s education sector. We congratulate the awardee, Chekwube Ifentike, for doing the state proud, while charging other teachers to replicate the gesture,” Chuma-Udeh said.

The latest recognition adds to Anambra State’s growing list of achievements in the education sector.

It was reported on October 6, 2025, that nine schools from the state won honours at the 2025 President’s and Schools’ Excellence Awards, held at Eagle Square, Abuja, as part of activities marking World Teachers’ Day.
