The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced changes to its 2026 party activities, extending its nationwide membership e-registration exercise and shifting the dates for its congresses and National Convention.
The party disclosed that the ongoing e-registration, originally scheduled to end on January 31, 2026, has now been extended to February 8, 2026. However, the APC said Rivers, Osun, Ekiti states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will not take part in the upcoming congresses.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Friday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, explained that the adjustments were approved by the party’s 183rd National Working Committee (NWC) meeting.
According to him, the APC National Convention, earlier fixed for March 17, has now been rescheduled to hold between March 27 and March 28, 2026.
Morka recalled that the party had unveiled a comprehensive timetable last year for its ward, local government, state and zonal congresses across the country as part of preparations for the 2025/2026 political cycle. The membership e-registration exercise was initially slated for December 1, 2025, to January 30, 2026.
He said the extension was approved to give more party members the opportunity to register and to help the APC achieve its target of 12 million registered members nationwide.
Explaining the decision to exempt some states from the forthcoming congresses, Morka said Rivers State was excluded because the party conducted off-cycle congresses there last year, and the tenure of the current executives is still ongoing.
He added that Osun State, Ekiti State and the FCT were exempted due to forthcoming governorship and council elections, noting that congresses in those areas would be conducted after the elections.
“At the meeting, the National Working Committee resolved to extend the membership e-registration exercise to February 8, 2026,” Morka said. “The party will also hold its congresses on February 18, 2026, while the National Convention will take place from March 27 to March 28, 2026. However, Osun, Ekiti, the FCT and Rivers State are excluded from the upcoming congresses.”
He urged party leaders and members across the country to intensify mobilisation efforts and encourage those yet to register to take advantage of the extension.
The APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, said the registration exercise had been largely successful, stressing that the extension was not due to poor turnout but to accommodate the growing interest among members.
Basiru disclosed that the party had already crossed seven million registered members and expressed confidence that the APC would exceed 12.5 million members by the close of registration on February 8.
He also revealed that, in line with the party’s digitization drive, applications for the upcoming congresses will be conducted online for the first time, describing the move as a major innovation.
According to him, prospective members are required to provide only their name and Voter Identification Number (VIN) during registration, noting that the process is designed to promote voter participation and strengthen internal party organisation.
