Hon. Abdullahi Ayodeji Olaiya, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, on Tuesday distributed free Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to residents and transport operators in Osogbo as part of efforts to spur grassroots support ahead of the August 8, 2026 governorship poll
The outreach, held in Osogbo, attracted transport workers and residents from various parts of the state.
Speaking at the event, Olaiya, an indigene of Osogbo in Osogbo Local Government Area and aspirants for the position of House of Assembly, said the initiative was aimed at cushioning the impact of the current economic challenges, particularly on transport operators, while demonstrating the APC’s commitment to people-focused governance.
Olaiya described the forthcoming governorship election as crucial to the future of Osun State, stressing the need for the state to align more closely with the Federal Government in order to fully benefit from national development policies and programmes under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Osun has been disconnected for far too long. It is time to reconnect with the centre to enjoy greater dividends of democracy under our President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
He commended President Tinubu for what he termed bold and far-reaching reforms, including tax reforms and the promotion of local government autonomy, noting that such policies would accelerate sustainable development across the country.
The APC chieftain urged residents to turn out in large numbers to support the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, whom he described as a leader of integrity, competence and vision, capable of strengthening the reforms of the Tinubu administration and repositioning Osun for socio-economic growth.
Olaiya also called on youths, especially in Osogbo, to rally behind the APC, assuring them that an Oyebamiji-led administration would be inclusive and youth-friendly. He added that the free fuel distribution marked the start of a series of community-based initiatives aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots presence across the state.
Also speaking, Alhaji Kazeem Yusuf of Ward 7, Osogbo Local Government Area, described the programme as a demonstration of compassionate and responsible leadership. He said the initiative aligned with the vision of the APC governorship candidate to transform Osun from a largely commercial state into an industrialised economy.
“This initiative is about poverty reduction and improving the living conditions of our people, particularly transport workers such as okada riders, tricycle operators and other informal sector participants. This is the true essence of APC governance,” Yusuf said, while offering prayers for the organiser.
One of the beneficiaries, Adewale Fasooto, who spoke on behalf of others, described the intervention as timely and impactful, noting that the free fuel distribution had provided much-needed relief to residents struggling with economic hardship. He expressed gratitude to Olaiya and prayed for his continued success.
