Chelsea Football Club have officially parted ways with head coach Enzo Maresca, bringing his time at Stamford Bridge to an abrupt end on New Year’s Day, 2026.

The decision follows weeks of intense speculation surrounding the Italian tactician’s future, with the West London club opting for a managerial change as they begin the new year. Maresca departs with immediate effect, less than two years after taking charge of the Blues, leaving Chelsea once again searching for a new head coach.

Despite his sudden exit, Maresca’s tenure included notable successes. He guided Chelsea to UEFA Conference League glory and lifted the FIFA Club World Cup last season, achievements that also helped the club secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League. He was reportedly working under a contract set to run until 2029.

However, Chelsea’s hierarchy believe a change in leadership is necessary to revive the club’s campaign across multiple competitions.

In a statement released on the club’s official website, Chelsea said:
“Chelsea Football Club and Head Coach Enzo Maresca have parted company.

During his time at the club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Those achievements will remain an important part of the Club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions.

With key objectives still to play for across four competitions, including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track. We wish Enzo well for the future.”

Maresca now finds himself without a club, while Chelsea begin yet another managerial hunt, continuing a familiar trend in recent seasons as they seek stability and long-term success.
