Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi could be on his way back to the Premier League, just six months after leaving England for Turkey.
According to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 29-year-old midfielder has been offered to Manchester United as a potential January signing, as he pushes for a return to English football.
Ndidi only joined Turkish giants Besiktas last summer, ending an eight-year spell in the Premier League. However, reports suggest the Nigeria international is already keen on a comeback.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that Ndidi’s representatives have presented him to United as a midfield option for the second half of the season.
“One player that is offered to Manchester United is Wilfred Ndidi,” Romano said.
“The former Leicester City midfielder, now playing in Turkey, is being proposed as an opportunity for this January transfer window.”
Although Ndidi is said to be fully open to the move, United are yet to submit any official bid.
“Manchester United are aware of the opportunity,” Romano added, “but so far, they haven’t made any formal offer. The player is ready and willing to return to the Premier League.”
Further reports from journalist Ben Jacobs indicate that Besiktas may be open to a deal, possibly a loan move with an option or conditional obligation to buy, valued around €12m–€15m.
Ndidi originally arrived in England in January 2017, joining Leicester City from Belgian side Genk for £17m, tasked with replacing N’Golo Kanté. Over more than eight seasons, he became a fan favourite at the King Power Stadium, winning the FA Cup, Community Shield, and EFL Championship. Renowned for his tackling, interceptions, and defensive intelligence, he was often among the league’s top performers in defensive statistics.
After Leicester’s relegation in 2025, Ndidi moved to Besiktas on a contract running until 2027. He has settled well in Istanbul, even captaining the side, making 14 league appearances and scoring once this season. Still, his desire to return to England has remained strong.
His stock also rose after an impressive outing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where he captained Nigeria to a bronze medal finish and earned widespread praise.
With Michael Carrick looking to strengthen United’s midfield, Ndidi’s experience, leadership, and Premier League pedigree make him an attractive option.
With less than two weeks left in the winter transfer window, the midfielder will be hoping talks progress quickly, as he eyes a return to the Premier League and a new challenge at the highest level.
