Former Deputy Governor of Ondo State and governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last election, Agboola Ajayi, has officially returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ajayi rejoined the ruling party on Tuesday at his ward, Apoi Ward 2, Kiribo, in Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, marking a major political realignment ahead of future elections.
Speaking at the event, Ajayi said his decision to return to the APC was motivated by a desire to contribute meaningfully to the party and support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election. He also pledged support for the EASE Agenda of Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as well as Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to him, politics should rise above personal differences, stressing that national interest must always come first. Drawing examples from other democracies, Ajayi said political reconciliation was necessary for progress, adding that disagreements during campaigns should not stand in the way of unity afterward.
Ajayi also commended President Tinubu for what he described as bold economic reforms, noting that the policies had laid a solid foundation for long-term national development. He expressed confidence that with sustained support, the current administration would leave Nigeria better than it met it.
Reacting to the development, Governor Aiyedatiwa described Ajayi’s return as a significant boost to the APC in Ondo State. Represented by his Special Adviser on Legislative and Party Affairs, Babatunde Kolawole, the governor said Ajayi’s experience, political influence and grassroots connection would strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Similarly, the Ondo State APC Chairman, Ade Adetimehin, hailed Ajayi as a seasoned grassroots politician with deep knowledge of the state’s political terrain. He said Ajayi’s return had further united the party and positioned it strongly for future electoral victories at both the state and federal levels.
