The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to see environmental protection and cleanliness as a collective responsibility that requires the commitment of everyone.

Tinubu made the call in a message issued in Abuja on Monday to mark the 2026 International Day of Clean Energy, themed “Clean Energy for People and Planet.” She said the occasion serves as an important reminder of the need for Nigerians to actively protect and preserve their environment.

According to her, the adoption of renewable energy and sustainable technologies is no longer optional but essential for survival, healthy living and responsible environmental stewardship.

“I urge us all to embrace renewable energy and sustainable technologies as a vital foundation for our wellbeing and the protection of our environment,” she said. “Let us work together to build a greener and healthier planet for present and future generations.”

The First Lady also wished Nigerians a happy International Day of Clean Energy.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the International Day of Clean Energy is observed annually on January 26, following its declaration by the United Nations General Assembly through Resolution A/77/327. The day aims to raise awareness and encourage action towards a just and inclusive transition to clean energy for the benefit of people and the planet.
