The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has resumed its nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, marking the beginning of the second phase of the process.
The development took effect on Monday and was confirmed by the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola, who simply affirmed the resumption when contacted.
The restart follows the conclusion of the first phase of the CVR, which officially ended on December 10, 2025.
INEC had earlier commenced the exercise with an online pre-registration platform on August 18, 2025, before extending it to physical registration at designated centres across the country on August 25.
According to the commission, the first phase recorded significant participation. A total of 9,891,801 Nigerians initiated the online pre-registration process, while 2,572,054 applicants successfully completed their registration nationwide as of November 28, 2025. This figure includes 1,503,832 completed online registrations and 1,068,222 registrations finalised through physical enrolment.
INEC explained that the gap between the two phases was used to carry out statutory duties required by law, particularly the display of the voters’ register for public scrutiny.
“In line with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, the register of voters was displayed for claims and objections from December 15 to 21, 2025, at local government offices where the CVR exercise was conducted,” the commission said.
With the resumption, INEC urged eligible Nigerians who are yet to register to seize the opportunity to enrol, transfer their voting locations, or update their personal details.
The commission also encouraged those who registered during the first phase to verify their information, report any errors, and raise objections against the inclusion of ineligible or deceased persons on the voters’ register.
However, INEC clarified that voter registration activities remain suspended in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory due to ongoing electoral processes in both areas. The commission added that new dates for the resumption of CVR in the affected locations would be announced later.
