The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has taken a remarkable step back into academic life, resuming lectures as a 200-level Law student at Northwest University, Kano.
On Tuesday, the respected monarch was spotted attending classes alongside other undergraduates, drawing attention as he arrived dressed simply in a flowing black robe and a white turban. His presence on campus quickly became a talking point among students and observers alike.
Sanusi’s return to the classroom follows his recent admission into the university’s Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme, where he will study both Common Law and Sharia Law. The institution explained that he was granted special admission in recognition of his extensive background in governance, economics, and public service.
Founded in 2012, Northwest University is one of the two tertiary institutions owned by the Kano State Government. The Emir’s decision to pursue another degree there has been widely praised as a powerful example of lifelong learning.
Despite holding a PhD and having served as the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to education, intellectual growth, and social reform. His latest academic pursuit further reinforces his reputation as a prominent and thought-provoking voice in Nigeria’s public discourse.
Photos from the campus, shared on social media, captured the Emir fully immersed in student life, an image many Nigerians see as both inspiring and symbolic.
