The Kwara State House of Assembly has approved the 2026 Appropriation Bill, passing a total budget of ₦656.5 billion—₦10.5 billion higher than the original proposal presented by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The budget was passed on Friday following the consideration and adoption of the report submitted by the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation during plenary.

Announcing the approval, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi Salihu, said the increase resulted from detailed scrutiny of the estimates to ensure the budget is realistic and capable of effective implementation for the benefit of residents of the state.

According to him, “The revised budget reflects the House’s commitment to ensuring that government spending aligns with developmental priorities and economic realities.

“A breakdown of the approved budget shows that recurrent expenditure has increased to over ₦409.6 billion, representing an upward adjustment of about ₦10.5 billion from the initial estimate submitted by the executive,” he said.

Danladi-Salihu noted that capital expenditure was also increased to ₦271 billion from ₦254 billion, with the aim of boosting funding for infrastructure and other critical development projects across the state.

He explained that the adjustments were made to accelerate the execution of priority projects and improve service delivery in line with the state government’s development objectives.

The Speaker further disclosed that debt servicing for the 2026 fiscal year has been revised to ₦14.2 billion, slightly above the earlier estimate.

“The House carefully examined the budget in line with constitutional provisions and resolved to approve a realistic and implementable budget that will bring maximum benefits to the people of Kwara State,” the Speaker said.

He added that the legislature would sustain its oversight role to ensure proper execution of the budget and accountability in the management of public funds.
