The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Traditional Rulers, Mai-Martaba Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has announced that the burial prayer for the late Chief Imam of Ilorin, Shaykh Muhammad Bashir Imam Solih (OON), will take place on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
According to the Emir, the Janazah prayer is scheduled to hold at the Palace Square of the Emir of Ilorin by 10:00 a.m. The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday by the Emir’s Press Secretary, Dr Abdulazeez Arowona.
The statement explained that the burial was fixed for Tuesday due to the late arrival of the deceased’s remains from Abuja, where he passed away after a brief illness.
“The Janazah for the late Chief Imam of Ilorin, Shaykh (Dr) Muhammad Bashir Imam Solih, will hold tomorrow, Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the Emir’s Palace by 10:00 a.m. This arrangement was approved by the Emir of Ilorin following the late arrival of the corpse from Abuja,” the statement said.
The Emir called on Muslims in Ilorin and neighbouring communities to attend the burial rites and continue to offer prayers for the repose of the soul of the departed cleric.
Insightlinks had earlier reported that Shaykh Muhammad Bashir Imam Solih, the 12th Chief Imam of Ilorin, died on Monday at the age of 75. He passed away at a hospital in Abuja, where he had been receiving medical care for about ten days.
Reacting to his passing, the Emir described the death as a monumental loss to the Ilorin Emirate, the Muslim Ummah and humanity as a whole. He noted that the late Chief Imam was highly respected for his vast knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence, moral discipline and lifelong dedication to peace, unity and religious tolerance.
Until his death, Shaykh Imam Solih served as the Chief Imam of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Ulama, where he played a significant role in advancing Islamic scholarship, promoting interfaith harmony and fostering peaceful coexistence within the state and beyond.
