President Bola Tinubu on Thursday met separately with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Both governors arrived at the State House in the afternoon, though at different times. Governor Mutfwang was the first to arrive at about 3:00 p.m., while Governor Makinde followed shortly after, around 3:30 p.m.

The meetings are taking place amid growing political consultations and realignments as key players begin positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor Makinde, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), remains one of the few opposition governors who have not defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), despite the recent wave of defections sweeping across the political landscape.

The Oyo State governor is widely believed to be eyeing a presidential run and is said to be positioning himself for the PDP’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 polls.

Governor Mutfwang, on the other hand, recently defected from the PDP to the APC, joining several opposition figures who have crossed over to the ruling party in recent months. Thursday’s visit marked his first known official meeting with President Tinubu since his defection.

President Tinubu has continued to engage governors from across party lines, a move seen by observers as part of broader political consultations and efforts to strengthen national cooperation ahead of future elections.
