Workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), backed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), on Monday staged a protest at the National Industrial Court in Abuja, intensifying their ongoing total and indefinite strike over unresolved labour issues.
The demonstrators picketed the court premises as part of efforts to draw national attention to what they described as persistent violations of workers’ rights by the FCTA management and political leadership. The strike action followed a directive from the NLC, which threw its full weight behind the protest, insisting that the workers’ grievances had been ignored for too long.
According to the NLC, the industrial action is justified, citing unpaid promotion arrears, lack of essential working tools, and poor welfare conditions as some of the unresolved issues affecting workers in the nation’s capital.
During the protest, workers carried placards with bold messages such as “Wike must go!!”, “Abuja no be Rivers”, “Pay promotion arrears”, “Enough is Enough”, and “No working tools”, reflecting their anger and frustration over the situation.
The protesters vowed to continue the strike and related actions until their demands are addressed, warning that normal activities within the FCTA would remain disrupted if the authorities fail to act swiftly.
