Deputy Majority Leader of the Osun State House of Assembly and lawmaker representing Irepodun/Orolu State Constituency, Hon. Adekunle Oladimeji, on Sunday, presented multi-million naira empowerment items to hundreds of his constituents.
The event was historic, as beneficiaries from all 21 wards gathered to witness the programme designed to improve livelihoods and appreciate constituents for their sustained support.
Items distributed include grinding machines, refrigerators, generators, motorcycles, fumigation sprayer and plasma TV.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Hon. Oladimeji said the empowerment was part of his commitment to deliver dividends of democracy in practical terms.
He explained that representation goes beyond motions and projects, stressing that leaders must also touch lives directly.
He described the initiative as unprecedented in the history of the constituency, noting that it marked a new standard in people-centred governance.
According to him, empowerment should address not only economic needs but also social, emotional and psychological wellbeing of citizens.
“This empowerment programme is about impacting lives and ensuring people truly feel governance. It is a new approach to representation in Irepodun–Orolu State Constituency.”
He added that giving back to constituents remained a core duty of elected officials, as it strengthens trust and deepens the bond between leaders and the people.
Oladimeji also appreciated constituents for their loyalty and support, acknowledging political stakeholders and Governor Ademola Adeleke for their backing.
Oladimeji further said the programme offered a glimpse of what residents should expect from the present administration in the coming years.
He maintained that the current leadership in Osun is people-oriented and committed to citizens’ welfare beyond physical infrastructure.
“This is only a fraction of what lies ahead. Governance is not just about projects; it is about genuine care for the people,” he said.
Beneficiaries commended the lawmaker for the initiative. Mrs Jimoh Iyabo Folashade from Ward Four, Irepodun, described the programme as surprising and commendable, saying such gestures were absent in the past.
She noted that previous representatives did not undertake similar initiatives, adding that the empowerment programme reflected sincerity and concern for constituents’ wellbeing.
Mrs Ayandoke Folasade, Women Leader of Irepodun Local Government and a beneficiary, praised Oladimeji’s leadership style, describing him as sincere and dedicated to service. She also lauded Governor Adeleke for policies supporting women across the state.
Another beneficiary, Yusuf Lukman Alaga from Ward Five, Ilobu, expressed joy after receiving a power generator, describing the support as rare and impactful. He said the item would ease challenges caused by poor electricity supply and high cost of petrol.
Many residents at the event described the empowerment programme as a turning point in constituency representation, expressing optimism for more people-focused initiatives in the future.
