The Osun State Government has suspended all official dealings with the state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria following an ongoing leadership crisis and controversy surrounding the organisation.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the government expressed concern over the deepening feud within the Osun NYCN, particularly disputes linked to leadership and the management of allocated resources.
Consequently, the state government has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the crisis and set up a three-member committee made up of independent and unaffiliated nominees to review previous engagements with the youth body.
The government also disclosed that, while the investigation is ongoing, it will implement an earlier directive issued by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development to ministries and stakeholders in the youth sector.
According to the statement, the Federal Ministry had, in late 2025, informed stakeholders of the withdrawal of the NYCN’s certificate of registration by the Corporate Affairs Commission and subsequently ceased dealings with the national leadership due to prolonged infighting, factionalisation and confrontations.
With the Osun State chapter now facing similar challenges, the state government said it had no choice but to suspend further engagement with the body pending the outcome of the investigation.
The government, however, dismissed what it described as attempts by opposition elements to politicise developments in the youth sector, assuring the public that measures have been put in place to restore normalcy, transparency and accountability.
